Bob Hoskins
Living in war-torn Beirut, Lebanon, for twelve years, Reverend Bob Hoskins and his wife, Hazel, literally raised their three children "under the guns". They endured threatening phone calls, curfews, evacuations, and the bombing of their apartment.
The ongoing Civil War made it impossible for this evangelistic work to continue in Lebanon. The ministry was relocated to other areas in the Middle East and Hoskins continued to give leadership until he and his family returned to the United States in 1980. Despite all of the opposition, the Middle East Outreach Ministry was birthed and is still flourishing today across the Middle East and North Africa.
Besides living in Lebanon, Bob and Hazel have resided in Africa, South America, and France. Since 1980, the Hoskins' have been living in Deerfield, Florida, where Bob served as president of Life Publishers International.
In 1987, missionary Bob Hoskins was asked by the Minister of Education in El Salvador to provide bibles to the country's 986,000 school children. Bob was up to the challenge, but instead of bibles, he delivered what is now called the Book of Hope , with tremendous results. The country was caught in a wave of church revivals and students and their families committing their lives to Christ.
Bob now serves as the founder and chairman of Book of Hope, an international ministry that distributes the Book of Hope to youth and children around the world.
The Book of Hope is the Gospel text harmonized, translated, and published into different languages and distributed with government permission in the public and private schools all over the world. Most students receive the Book of Hope from a local believer who is then able to lead the child to a local church. We also have dedicated Affect Destiny Team volunteers who are responsible for distributing these books around the world in an interactive and dynamic way so children don't just read the Book of Hope but have a full understanding of the spiritual message.
To date, over 480 million Books of Hope have been distributed in over 125 countries. The book has been translated into more than 80 distinct languages and has been distributed to children and their families in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union.
Recognising the Word of God as the only hope for evangelizing the world's growing population, Bob states that, "The challenging truth is that through just 20 languages, we can reach almost three-quarters of the world's people. By targeting school children, we reach the most open, tenderhearted segment of the population."
Hazel has been a constant support to her husband and has taken an active role in the ministry that God has called them to. She has been involved with Book of Hope since its beginning, directing teams to Russia and Eastern Europe to distribute the books in public schools.
Mrs. Hoskins, like her husband, has a heart to see God's Word spread across this spiritually dark world, but she also recognizes the great need for women's ministry. "We don't live with physical bombs, bullets, and mortars here in America," she says, "but even more devastating is the spiritual bombardment the Christian woman faces daily. This invasion must be counteracted by the Word of God and a supernatural intervention in our lives."
Besides being a veteran missionary, Bob is an author, publisher, and a widely acclaimed speaker. Hazel is an accomplished musician, Bible teacher, and freelance writer. Bob and Hazel Hoskins have three grown children and seven wonderful grandchildren. |
